Brief Introduction

Our school is located in Longtian Village of Luye Township, which lies on the plain of the East Rift Valley, surrounded by hills on three sides. We can overlook Beinan Xishan light water with a beautiful view around our school.

The ancient trees that tower into the clouds on our campus represent the strong courage and self-reliance and a sense of belonging of Longtian Primary School. Longtian Elementary School, founded in 1917, is the oldest elementary school in Kanojang. During the Japanese colonization period, our school was called Luye Exemplary Junior High school and specifically attended by Japanese children to go to.During the Japanese occupation period, the staff members of the school worked very hard for it to be known as the most beautiful school in Taitung at that time.

Longtian Elementary School with a hundred years of history has 62 students in total. There are six classes of 45 students at present for primary school and one class of 17 students for preschool. Due to the outflow of the rural population, the school’s student numbers have declined from a peak of 510. The structure of the families is rapidly changing too with more parents actively participating in the workforce and more single parents too. Despite all this, the teachers are all still working very hard and dedicating their life to the education. They try to be the light of the students. Over many years, the efforts of teachers have been recognized and praised by the community.

Our school covers an area of 3.13 hectares including not only old trees that we planted but also large play areas for various activities for students. There are 11 tall trees that are over one hundred years old reaching through the clouds. They are valued by Taitung County Government. The tree species include Old Banyan, Sweet Gum, Black Pine, Eggplant Tree, Lychee Tree, Pistache Tree,Sapindus, Camphor etc. Due to Taitung being hit by category 17 strong Typhoon Nepartak on July 8th 2016, the “Old Banyan Tree and Pistacia tree” were destroyed. It was an ecological disaster for our old trees. Our school makes great use of trees as environmental and ecological resources for students to connect happily with nature. Therefore,” Longtian Primary School” was the most beautiful natural environment during the period of the Japanese colonization and Longtian Primary School is still one of the most beautiful primary schools now.
